Kiwi Can 2018

Back into another term of Kiwi Can with our new Kiwi Can leaders Owen and Katie. Our module for this term is respect which we have been talking a lot about. It fits in well with our class treaty and all of the things that are important to us. In Kiwi Can we completed an activity about what respect looked like, sounds like and feels like. There were some great ideas thrown around and we are looking forward to seeing them implemented in Te Ara Takitini this year. Bring on the respect and the Kiwi Can points!

Our Summer Memories

We have spent the last week or so working on displaying our summer memories. We used a phone template to do this, having our highlights on the front and then filled in some boxes with details inside our phones. We were working hard on presenting these and we took our time in making them look great. They were a big project but we are pretty happy with how they turned out.

The Treaty of Te Ropu Ngakaunui

In class we have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi. We have had many discussions, watched videos and done our own research on what was involved on this important day way back in 1840.

We read the Tree hut treaty and then decided to make our own. In small groups, we brainstormed different ideas about expectations from all different people, such as, ourselves, our parents, our teachers, Mr Wilkinson, and even our cleaners. Miss Johnstone put the some of these ideas together to form our class Treaty. Nalanee and Nazif stained it with tea and coffee because we wanted it to resemble an old document like the Treaty of Waitangi. Miss Johnstone then (carefully) burnt the edges, and her fingers, to give it an old look. We think it looks great and it takes pride of place on our wall! We also created class portraits to put around it and act as our signatures. There were hundreds of people who signed the Treaty of Waitangi.. so we didn't have quite as many!

Welcome Back Water Day

Second Friday back at school... so why not have a water party? We had an absolute blast! First there were water games, apple bobbing, relays, sponges and water guns were involved.

After an hour of this we needed some energy for what was about to happen after lunch. Luckily for us some nice men from Owen's Transport provided us with not just a free sausage sizzle but also fruit and some water! After we had our sausage (and in some case 5 sausages) we were prepared for our Senior water fight.
But first... a pool party!
The water fight began and our first target was Mr Wilkinson himself.. of course. We had water guns, water balloons, drinkbottles, hoses, buckets... you name it, we had it!

By the end of the day we were all absolutely soaked and ready for the weekend. What a great day at Gilberthorpe.

Welcome back to 2018 in Te Ara Takitini

Kiwi Can Champs

I have been so proud of Tawa Class this term. They have really upped their respect in class and at Kiwi Can. All have been achieving our class goal of participating and contributing and because of this, we have won the class reward!

Reece and Owen came today and we had a party in our pool. They even got in with us! It was a lot of fun and we hope they are both back as our Kiwi Can leaders next year. Thankyou so much for coming to see us each Wednesday, we have really enjoyed our year!

Senior Garden Update

The garden outside the back of our hub has really shot up over the last few weeks. We thought it would be nice to share some photos with you all.

These sunflowers will look fantastic once they have bloomed.

Most of these plants were from our New World little gardens. We can't believe how well they have grown. Check out our courgette plants.

They've pretty taken over our whole garden bed in just a matter of weeks!

These our our sweet peas from the first lot of Little gardens that we got back in term 3. They've shot up in the last few weeks.

It'll be cool to come back after the holidays to see how much our garden has grown. Hopefully some wonderful students will volunteer to keep it watered over summer ;)
